Getting the Most Out of Your Visual Intercept Workspace

Depending upon the options allowed by the Visual Intercept Administrator, Visual intercept Web users can enable certain display preferences to personalize their Visual Intercept Web workspace. This tech tip covers the options that Visual Intercept Web, users can select in order to enable those settings that create the workspace in which they feel most comfortable.

In Visual Intercept Web users can select Options |Settings from the Navigation menu item in order to enable those settings that create the workspace in which they feel most comfortable. Any settings that pertain to default values at logon will only be active the next time you logon.

The Visual Intercept Web Options page is divided into three tabs:

  • General - Options for Spell Checking, Automatic Update, Logon options, and SCCS options.
  • Display - Options for specifying a user’s start page, startup queries, startup projects, content indicators, and report viewer components.
  • Templates - Options that are to be used when emailing a Visual Intercept document; as well as the template used at the check-in and check-out of source files.
After making any changes to your workspace options, simply select the Actions|Update from the Navigation menu or click the update button.

General Settings

  • Automatically Spellcheck Document When Updating automatically checks the spelling of each text field when the document is inserted or updated. If this option is turned off, spell checking can be done manually by selecting Action |Check Spelling, or by clicking the spell checking icon that appears to the right of the field.
  • Automatically Update Documents When Leaving Page will automatically Insert or Update the current document when you navigate to a new page. If this option is turned off, attempting to navigate to a new page will result in a Pop-up message asking if you wish to update the changes you have made.

Visual Intercept Logon Options

  • Change User Password fields for updating user password.
  • Automatically Logon will automatically logon each time you access the Visual Intercept URL without prompting for authentication. This option should be used with caution, as any user with access to your workstation would be able to log onto Visual Intercept and make changes.

Visual Intercept SCCS Options

  • Enable Source Code Control Integration provides access to the SCCS integration functionality provided the Administrator settings allow it.
  • Source Code Control Authentication fields for accessing the SCCS integration.
  • Test Logon button verifies that the correct client components are installed and able to communicate to the SCCS database.

Document Library Logon Options

  • Document Library Authentication fields for accessing the Microsoft SharePoint integration. If you do not have SharePoint credentials, the Default UserID will be defined by the settings in the Visual Intercept Administrator.

Default Start Page

The Default Start Page is the page that will be displayed when a user first logs onto Visual Intercept Web.

  • Explorer View displays the project heirarchy with the appopriate incidents.
  • Account List View displays the current account query list results.
  • Contact List View displays the current contact query list results.
  • Hardware List View displays the current hardware query list results.
  • Incident List View displays the current incident query list results.
  • Project List View displays the current project query list results.

General Display Settings

  • Document Content Indicators lets the user know that a particular tab contains information by changing the text of a document tab label to an italicized format. For example, if a contact is attached to an incident, the Contact tab name will display as Contact.
  • Date Format allows users to customize the appearance of dates based on the format selected. The date format will appear next to fields that have dates associated with them and within calendar fields.
  • Sort Parameters by Precedence will order the values displayed in parameter comboboxes by the Precedence value assigned by the Visual Intercept Administrator. If precedence values have not been set, the combo-boxes will sort alpha-numerically.

Default Startup Queries

When you are working within Visual Intercept Web, the application will always default to the last query executed. This option determines which query for each document type is the default when you first log on, the query selected can be a global query or a personal query that you have constructed.

  • Accounts sets the default account query.
  • Contacts sets the default contact query.
  • Hardwares sets the default hardware query.
  • Incidents sets the default incident query.
  • Projects sets the default project query.

Startup Project Options

  • Project sets the default current project used for selection and new incidents at the time of logon. or users who often register incidents against one particular project, it is helpful to set this value.
  • Recurse Projects in Explorer View will display incidents in the selected project and any child projects when using the Project Explorer.

Default Crystal Reports Viewer

The Crystal Reports reporting functionality supports different report viewers so that the user may pick the correct mechanism for their browser. Each viewer has similar functionality implemented through different technologies. Report content is the same, regardless of viewer.

  • ActiveX uses an ActiveX control and requires a browser that supports ActiveX controls.
  • Java uses a java based viewer and is accessible by a wider vierity of browsers.
  • HTML is the most basic viewer technology and accessible by all browsers with no further considerations.


Templates Tab

If the Visual Intercept Administrator has created custom email or SCCS templates, these templates can be selected from the drop down menu. If custom templates have not been created the Standard Template will be used when a Visual Intercept document is sent via e-mail.

Visual Intercept Email Templates

These templates are used when the user selects the Send Mail option from the toolbar while viewing the document.

  • Accounts displays the currently selected account template.
  • Contacts displays the currently selected contact template.
  • Hardwares displays the currently selected hardware template.
  • Incidents displays the currently selected incident template.
  • Projects displays the currently selected project template.

Visual Intercept SCCS Templates

  • CheckIn displays the currently selected template used for a Check In operation through the SCCS integration.
  • CheckOut displays the currently selected template used for a Check Out operation through the SCCS integration.
