I want users to be able to enter and view issues in Visual Intercept but I do not want them to be able to modify these issues. What is the best way to accomplish this? |
Visual Intercept Web Relay would be your best solution. Visual Intercept Web Relay is specifically designed to allow non-team members to register and track issues in Visual Intercept. Web Relay users are allowed to enter new incidents in the Visual Intercept database, along with any relevant files, including screen shots, log files, and contact information. Web Relay users may then track the document through issue life cycle, viewing its attributes (status, category, severity, priority, AssignID, RequestID, QAID) as read-only fields. This prevents Web Relay users from modifying sensitive incident data that should be available only to members of the development or other project team. Web Relay also offers automatic notification and an easy-to-use Quick Search tool that allows Web Relay users to run key word searches and searches by incident attributes to locate relevant incidents.

I need to access Visual Intercept from home and on the road. Will I have to re-build all of my custom queries and re-set all of my preferences? |
No. All custom queries, notification rules, - and user preferences (start up queries, default project for new incidents, etc.) are stored in server-side user profiles. Since these items are stored on the server, they will be available to you any time you use Visual Intercept Web, regardless of your physical location.

I have 15,000 issues in my Visual Intercept database. Is there a way to quickly locate an issue without building a complex query? |
Yes. Visual Intercept Web provides an easy-to-use Search tool that allows you to quickly search for issues by keywords appearing in the Subject, Description, Workaround or Resolution fields. Keyword searches can be further limited by selecting a value from the Status, Priority, Severity, Category, Requested by and Assigned to fields. If you know the Incident ID, you may enter it and go directly to the Incident. In addition, you can search by Status, Category, Priority or Severity, or Values, independent of a keyword search. The search tool can be accessed either by selecting Search from the Actions menu or clicking the Search icon in the Visual Intercept toolbar.
After successfully locating an issue stored in your Visual Intercept database, you may wish to use the Bookmarks feature to save the issue to a separate list. Bookmarks provide you with a mechanism to save documents to an easy-to-access list view. Typically, bookmarks are used as a tool to remind yourself of work you may need to perform, or to quickly fetch frequently accessed information.

How can I determine who made changes to an issue in Visual Intercept? |
You may view who made changes to an issue in Visual Intercept using the Incident History tab. The Incident History tab provides a read-only record of modifications made to the issue since its insertion into the database along with the User ID of the individual making the changes, and the date the change was made. Incident history entries display changes made to any of the incident attributes (status, category, severity, priority), the Incident’s assigned user, the Incident’s requested user, the Project, Version, and Release with which the incident is associated.
Entries into text fields such as Description, Resolution and Workaround are time and date stamped with the User ID of the individual who entered the text. This time stamping provides an audit trail of users adding new text field entries.

I would like to send information about an issue to a customer who is not a Visual Intercept user. Is there an easy way to do this? |
Yes. Both Visual Intercept Desktop and Visual Intercept Web allow you to use your local e-mail system to send incident documents to anyone with an e-mail address. These e-mails contain all of the information contained in a Visual Intercept document. If you wish to customize the content of these e-mails, you can do this by modifying the isnotesv.tpl file located in the primary Visual Intercept installation directory. For example, if you do not want users to see text in the one of the text fields or the values in an attribute, you would simply comment out those sections of the isnotesv.tpl file governing their display. Instructions for modifying the isnotesv.tpl are included as part of the isnotesv.tpl.

How do I modify the look of my Visual Intercept Web site? |
Up to nine fields can be added to each Visual Intercept document. You have the option to include these fields in the document header that appears on each tab of the document or to create the fields in their own tab. The fields available are: 2 text fields, 2 parameter fields, 2 number fields, 2 date fields and 1 full text field.
Visual Intercept Web also incorporates many changes "under the hood" that make it easy to customize the appearance of your Visual Intercept web site. Using cascading style sheets to control form layouts offers the Visual Intercept administrator the ability to control aspects of each Visual Intercept document form to include field position, name, visibility and other behavioral attributes. The use of a web application strings dictionary further facilitates globalization and customization efforts. Taking advantage of these features, Visual Intercept administrators may hide a field in an incident document (such as priority), change the position of any field or even change its label.
Using the Configure document found in the Administrative pages, you can enter a “message of the day” that all Visual Intercept Web users will see at the log on screen, set the maximum number of records that are displayed in each document list view and import a custom image to replace the default image displayed in the banner section of the pages.
