The Visual Intercept Web and Web Relay spell checker has a simple facility for adding new words to its dictionary. To add a new word to the dictionary, go to the root directory of your Visual Intercept Web or Web Relay site, e.g., C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\viweb. In that directory you will see a viDictionary.xml file. When you open the file you will see the following element: <CustomWord>. To add a new word simply place it between the tags of the element, and add as many new elements of the same type for additional words. For example, if you wanted to add ODBC to the dictionary you would type in <Custom Word>ODBC</CustomWord>. Once you have added new words to the file and saved your changes they will be available immediately in the spell checker.
Common Ways to Use the Custom Dictionary
Some obvious candidates for addition to the dictionary are your company name, commonly used proper names not in the dictionary, e.g., your colleagues last names, and technical terms that are specific to your industry. Since Visual Intercept is most often used in the development of hardware and software products we have compiled a custom dictionary common in technology industries that are not currently included in our standard dictionary. You can use this custom dictionary immediately by replacing your existing viDictionary.xml with it, or you may choose to augment it with your own terms first. The custom dictionary will take effect immediately - there is no need to restart the website.
To download the custom dictionary, click here and save the file in the root directory of your Visual Intercept Web site.
