The IssueNet Assistant is a component of the IssueNet platform that simplifies the creation of new IssueNet databases. The IssueNet Assistant combines the steps of specifying a database, choosing a solution, and constructing the connection required for the IssueNet applications to access the new database.

Before using the IssueNet Assistant you will need to decide where the IssueNet database will reside and have credentials to create a database at that location. If you plan to use an existing SQL Server installation, contact your SQL Administrator for permissions to create a new database. If you do not have a SQL Server instance available you should use the IssueNet Platform installer that includes SQL Server Express which will install a free SQL Server Express instance for use with IssueNet. The IssueNet Assistant will prompt you for;

• SQL Server location
• Name of the database to create
• Valid SQL Server userID and password pair that has privileges to create a database in that SQL Server instance

Alternately, If you do not have a SQL Server instance available to you, install the IssueNet platform that includes SQL Server Express.

Note: You may use Integrated Windows Authentication instead of an explicit user name and password.

Once you have a SQL Server instance and credentials for creating the IssueNet database, just follow these steps to create a new IssueNet solution;

1. Open the IssueNet Assistant from the Elsinore Program Group
2. Click the Next button to step to the What Is IssueNet page.
3. Click the Next button to step to the IssueNet Solutions page.
4. Select the type of solution you wish to host in this database.
5. Click the Next button to step to the IssueNet Data page.
6. Select the type of data you wish to initially load into the IssueNet database.
7. Click the Next button to step to the Administrator Settings page.
8. Enter the administrator password and confirmation for the IssueNet administrator. The IssueNet administrator is a default IssueNet user and is not the same thing as a SQL administrator.
9. For experienced IssueNet administrators you may click the Advanced Options button and configure additional IssueNet settings.
10. Click the Next button to step to the IssueNet Database page.
    • Enter the SQL Server instance name
    • Enter the SQL Server user name and password or select the Windows Authentication option
    • Enter the SQL Server database name to create
11. Click the Next button to step to the Build IssueNet page.
12. Click the Next button to create the database. The output window will display progress. Any errors during the creation process will be logged in the output window. Upon successful completion you will be taken to the Completion page.
13. Select the options you wish to use after the Issuenet Assistant is complete.
14. Click the Finish button to complete the IssueNet Assistant process.

There are advanced configuration options you may select through the IssueNet Assistant on the Administrator Settings page that simplify further setup options. These options are typically used by IssueNet administrators who are creating multiple databases and already know working values for LDAP integration and notification services. These settings are the same options that are typically configured through the IssueNet Administrator by selecting the Tools | Options menu option.
